NLC Guide to Hiring a Live-in Caregiver


HRSDC PROCEDURE IN HIRING A LIVE-IN CAREGIVER:

 

 

  1.  Obtain a business number from Revenue Canada. Specify the purpose of the business number (you are going to employ a live-in nanny). Often times they will provide this over the phone and other information will be mailed to you.

Note: You cannot get your job bank job posting approved until you have a 9 digit business number.

 

  1. Post your ad on the National Job Bank (www.jobbank.gc.ca) for 14 days. Please print out your copy for your record.

 

  1. Interview respondents to your Ad; have a record of their names, phone numbers and comments on interviews.

 

  1. Submit HRSDC application after 14 days of job posting with the following documents:

                Processing will take about 20 – 25 days.

ADVERTISEMENT REQUIREMENT


Please note that New National Advertisement Directives  came into effect on January 1, 2009 for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

 

 

For the Live-In Caregiver Program, you will be considered to have conducted the minimum recruitment efforts required if you:


  • Advertise on the National Job Bank (www.jobbank.gc.ca)  for a minimum of fourteen (14) calendar days;  and

 

The advertisements must include at least the following information:



  1. Title: Live-in caregiver (with the designated group, ie. Senior or child care);
  2. Terms of Employment: Full-time and live-in;
  3. Salary: Explicit statement of the wage being offered;
  4. Location: Community/neighborhood location or major intersection;
  5. Skill Requirements:

- Education: Equivalent of Canadian secondary school;

- Experience: At least one year of full-time experience during the past three   years;

- Work Setting: Employer’s private home;

      - Work Location Information: Reside in private household for duration of employment; private accommodations will be provided; amount of room and board charged (if applicable);

      6. Employer: Employer name; agency or third party names not permitted;

      7. How to Apply: Must include the employer’s telephone number;

 

You must be prepared to demonstrate that you meet the advertising requirements by providing proof of advertisements and the results of your efforts to recruit Canadians or permanent residents at the time of the application.
